It was last Friday. I had just gotten up from a SWEET game of Warcraft on my PC.

Anyway, I realized I was dangerously low on Mountain Dew, so I threw on my lucky green sweat pants and my trenchcoat to walk 3 blocks to the convenience store. I figured if I had enough change, I might even pick up some Slim Jims, but I digress...

On my way back to my apartment, Dew and Slim Jims in hand, I saw you and your friends walking into the Jazz club across the street. You seemed so comfortable and cool dressed to the nines for an evening of drinks and dancing with those closest to you.

It was then that I knew I had to meet you. Although I had never been in that particular establishment, I followed you in. You probably would have seen me, but I was slowed by an argument with the doorman over my attire. After a few minutes, I think I had him convinced I looked ok, but then he proceeded to ask me for $10 just to walk into the bar. I couldn't believe they wanted to charge me just to get in. I, of course had no money, having spent every spare cent on caffeine and sticks of processed beef. I walked back to the convenience store and failed in my effort to return the goods I had so recently purchased. Luckily, the store had an ATM, so I pleaded with the checker to hold my purchases behind the counter for a short time, and I withdrew $20 from the cash machine. Armed with my fresh $20 bill, I marched to the Jazz Club, paid the $10 cover, and went looking for the woman of my dreams.

I saw you immediately, near the bar with your friends. You were at the end of the group with some space next to you, so I settled in close. You noticed me once or twice as I cleared my throat nervously trying to think of what to say. It sounded like you may have commented on my trenchcoat to one of your friends, but I couldn’t be sure.

I finally bumped you to get your attention. I may have bumped to hard as I noticed you spilled some of your drink on your shirt. Sorry about that.

ME: So... Do you come here often?

YOU: No. (you turn back to your friends)

ME: Me neither. I hate bars. I can't come to terms with why anyone would want to pay such high margins on watered down drinks they could make at home for a fraction of the cost... (I trail off noticing you aren't listening)

I regroup and lean in close to your ear...

ME: What are you drinking there?

YOU: (barely looking over your should back to me) A gin and tonic.

ME: Can I buy you one?

YOU: I already have one, see... (you hold up your drink sarcastically)

ME: Well then, can I reimburse you for the one you are drinking?

YOU: What? (looking at me now)

ME: Let me pay you back for that one.

YOU: Whatever. (looking puzzled and annoyed)

ME: How much was it?

YOU: What?

ME: How much is a gin and tonic?

YOU: Five dollars

ME: Jesus Christ! What fool pays $5 for a freakin’ drink? That's robbery!!!

YOU: Get away from me.

ME: (embarrassed by my outburst) No, no, no. I said I'd pay you for it, so I will. (reaching in my pocket) Do you have change for a $10?

You: What?

ME: I only have a ten dollar bill? Do you have five dollars change?

YOU: (turning to face me completely and folding your arms as your friends quiet down to watch our interaction) Actually, this drink was $6 with tip.

ME: What?

YOU: My drink. It was $5 plus $1 for tip!

ME: Damn, this is getting expensive. Ok, do you have $4 change for my $10.

YOU: No.

ME: Well, then I'll have to get change from the bartender.

YOU: Don't bother. Leave me alone. (you turn back to your friends as they erupt in laughter)

I spend 10 mintues trying to get the bartender's attention. I can't blame him much because he was very busy serving so many other morons begging to be robbed of their hard earned dollars. When he finally gets to me, he tells me he won't give me change, but I can buy a drink and will get change from that. I tell him I wouldn't dream of paying such inflated prices for frozen water and a few drops of our country’s last legal poison… He goes on to the next patron.

Frustrated, I go to the bathroom to pee and think about my next move. I’m pretty sure if I can just pay you for that drink that we will soon be making hot monkey love back at my apartment. However, I am disappointed at how much dating is already costing me, and how many obstacles one must overcome to simply buy a girl a drink. I start to plan my speech to you about how I may have jumped into this relationship too quickly, and that maybe we should just be friends.

While washing my hands in the sink, I notice there’s a bathroom attendant. He is smiling and waiting with fresh paper towels for me. Next to him is his tray of tips stacked with dollar bills. I drop my ten dollar bill on the tray, as the attendants smile widens. Then, I pick up a pile of ones and begin counting them. The bathroom attendant gets very hostile and grabs the cash from my hand. I wrestle with him over the wad of cash. One of the bouncers must have been just outside the bathroom. I was sure that he would understand my story, and we could get everything sorted out. Boy was I wrong. He didn’t want to hear anything. He just grabbed me by my trench coat and ripped me out the bathroom door and toward the exit. I yelled “I LOVE YOU” to you as he dragged me past your group. You replied loudly for all to hear FUCK OFF CREEP!!!

I know we’re meant for each other. Give me another chance.

Disagreement Puts Shortlist Prize on Hold

NEW YORK - In its four-year history, the Shortlist Music Prize has
become a coveted industry honor, shining a spotlight on artists who
have made exceptional albums that have fallen under the mainstream
radar.

But its future remains in doubt as its creators wrangle over the
future of the organization.

Usually held in Los Angeles in the fall, there will be no Shortlist
prize this year. Instead, co-founder Tom Sarig has a new award to
replace it: the New Pantheon, which, like the Shortlist, will be
determined by an eclectic jury of musicians, performers and journalists.

"I thought starting with a new entity with a sort of bolder
initiative would be a fresh way to do it," Sarig told The Associated
Press.

Among the celebrity judges for the award: Dave Matthews,
Elton John,
Keith Urban, Shirley Manson, actor
Elijah Wood and Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson of the Roots.

"The idea is very similar. It's shining a light on an honoring the
most creative and most artistic records of the new year," Sarig said.

The former MCA executive, who's now a manager and label consultant,
said the interests of himself and co-founder Greg Spotts had changed
and they had mutually, and amicably, decided not to continue Shortlist.

In an interview with the AP, Spotts acknowledged that he has been
less involved with music: He's gotten into political commentary, made
the 2003 documentary "American Jobs" and is releasing a book about
the making of the recent documentary critical of Wal-Mart.

Still, he expressed surprise at the new prize and said Shortlist was
very much alive.

"The only reason why we haven't put on a Shortlist this year is
because Tom and I don't seem to be able to agree on how," he said.
"It seems to be just like as bands get more successful, the egos get
more complicated to manage. That same process seems to be happening
with the management with our company."

The Shortlist Music Prize, created by the pair in 2001, mirrored
London's Mercury Prize in that it honored albums that were critically
acclaimed but had not achieved widespread commercial success. Those
nominated sold less than 500,000 copies, and most acts were more
familiar to alternative music fans.

The previous winners were Icelandic band Sigur Ros, Irish singer-
songwriter
Damien Rice, the Pharrell-fronted hip-hop/rock hybrid, N.E.R.D., and
TV on the Radio. Besides the honor, a cash prize of up to $10,000 was
awarded.

Over the years, while it helped boost the profile of its nominees and
winners, Shortlist also raised its own; just being nominated for a
Shortlist gave an artist cache, and last year, the show was broadcast
on MTV2 for the first time.

But Sarig said that while the award was well-known within media and
industry circles, he wanted it to have more of an impact with the
average fan.

"We feel a lot of credibility, but we haven't penetrated the consumer
world yet and I think with New Pantheon, with the initiatives that
I'm planning, we can totally do that," he said, saying he hoped to
announce TV, radio and Internet partnerships in the coming weeks.

Sarig said by adding artists such as country music star Keith Urban
to the panel, the nominees would be even more varied than the Shortlist.

Spotts said he would take legal action if Sarig went ahead with his
plans: "That isn't something that I feel is legally possible for
him ... you can't compete against a company that you co-own."

Sarig said his agreement with Spotts did not include a non-compete
clause and he was perfectly within his legal rights to create a new
prize.

What both men agree on is that the Shortlist Music Prize will remain
in limbo until both agree on its future.

"I've tried very very hard to have a Shortlist this year," Spotts
said. "I think it's become an important cultural happening on the
calendar."

Sarig said while he was proud of the Shortlist, he didn't want the
idea behind it to become lost in its problems. Finalists for the New
Pantheon will be announced in December, and the award will be
revealed shortly before the Feb. 8
Grammys.

"I am more committed to this vision of trying to create a platform
for left-of-center music than ever," he said.

This Gainsville, Florida band is a perfect example of Try-too-hard Art/Pop Rock. I'm removing them from my playlist and hanging the album from a string on my local music store's ceiling.

As you may well know that when I pay attention to this blog I make some changes. For example, last night I changed the 'Disks You Should Spin' section in the right hand column. I bet you didn't notice, but there is one particular group I have list that have been raved quite handsomely as of late.

I wouldn't know where the puns would end, but I'll throw one in and welcome you all to stand up and give a round of applause to my new favorite band on the scene, Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah! If you haven't done so already, do it, they're amazing. At least try to listen until you can finally understand the lyrics then you'll be amazed again.

Yeah, yeah... I'm forgiven right? I truly apologize to both my readers for the long hiatus from my blog. We have gotten extremely busy at Railway Equipment Company for the railroads all want their Switch Hot-Air Blowers now and in the ground before it snows and freezes.

Excuses, excuses right? Well... like I have been claiming for the last year I have been desperate to get myself a computer and now that my lame ass is living with my folks I've managed to save and pay-off debts and but myself a mammoth of a computer. Seriously, I think I could run the world with this thing... of course it will be obsolete in two months. Oh yes, you did read correctly, I live with my parents now. Fun right? No... I'm a long drive from my friends and concerts and a night-life and AA meetings and Chipotle and a Best Buy and... People. I haven't seen a civilized person in months.

Anyways... I plan to improve this damn thing... write more... maybe add some pictures... and maybe some links, boy do I have links to share. I'm looking forward to a bright and terrific 2006 for the two of you. I hope you both enjoy the new and improved look and feel of my blog from this point on and on and on and on...

Deverand Banhart - "Cripple Crow"

I was pleasantly surprised by Deverand Banhart's new album, Cripple Crow. This was a very well produced album which carried with a very relaxing undertone of what sounds of old time rag-tag. I was scared of what I may have been listening to when I got to the second to last song on the album entitled "Little Boys". I'm still hesitant to embrase this song even after reading Pitchfork.com's review.

And "Little Boys", which Banhart alleges is sung from the perspective of a schizophrenic Hermaphrodite, is divided in half by a mid-song bass change-up which shifts the song up from a sorta boring Oldham prom-dance lament to its sinister, surfy refrain: "I see so many little boys I wanna marry/ I see plenty little kids I've yet to had."

Singing of children through out the album and 'allegedly' writing this song from the perspective of a schizophrenic Hermaphrodite puts a shiver down my spine. Why would he sing from that perspective?

The biggest winners and loser by FOXSports.com

FOXSports.com posted their article today on the biggest winners and losers for this season's MLB trading deadline. They opted to place the Reds as the biggest winner and my precious Minnesota Twins as the biggest loser. Read the article here for further detail. I replied with this comment:

I think it is obvious that Terry Ryan has conceded to the unlikelihood of a post-season after the loss of Hunter on Friday. Prior to the injury I could have seen a trade for players such as Soriano or Hillebrand to be of great worth, but without Hunter in the line-up the trade would be in vein. There were maybe three Twins players in this round of trades worth any value; Romero, Lohse, and Mays. Though, the Twins were not about to give up Romero when they already have to resort to using the horrible Mulholland and would only give up one of the two starters. Of the three, Romero had the most value followed by a great margin with Mays and Lohse, giving the Twins no movement for a trade without giving up their hot pitching prospect. Therefore, placing the Twins as the biggest loser by the trade deadline is ridiculous providing under the circumstances they made the correct choice to not make any moves.

Rock band hits hurdle with 'Olympic' name

In its race to become the Twin Cities' most popular new rock band, the Olympic Hopefuls ran up against a hurdle.

The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) contacted the tracksuit-wearing pop-rockers and asked them to change their name -- or risk legal action. Turns out, the word "olympic" was trademarked in a little-known 1950 congressional act.

So, meet "the Hopefuls."

"We're trying to be good sports about it -- no pun intended," quipped Nathan Roise, manager of 2024 Records, the band's Minneapolis-based record label.

The band has had its share of laughs over the prospective David-vs.-Goliath battle, including a suggestion that it play the next Olympics for free as a tradeoff for using the label. Nevertheless, the group took the threat seriously.

"It was like someone telling me I couldn't live in my house anymore, that I would have to find a new house," said singer-guitarist Darren Jackson.

The change adds a sour taste to the Hopefuls' recent sweet success.

They just came off a busy month that put their name in front of new audiences at the Basilica Block Party and the Taste of Minnesota.

Ironically, the band chose its name after deciding that its old moniker, Camaro, would raise a red flag for trademark lawyers.

It's not uncommon for bands to run into trademark disputes, but the conflict is usually with other groups -- resulting in doctored-up names such as Dinosaur Jr. or the Charlatans U.K.

A similar case arose recently between the pop duo the Postal Service and the U.S. Postal Service, but it was amicably resolved: The band will perform at a USPS convention in November.

Darryl Siebel, spokesman for the USOC in Colorado Springs, Colo., said his committee is required by law to protect the Olympic trademark.

Major corporations such as Coca-Cola and McDonald's pay millions of dollars for rights to the Olympic name, and that money is used in turn to support the U.S. teams. "If the [name] is overused and watered-down, it could hinder our efforts to raise the money that's vital for supporting our great U.S. athletes," Siebel said.

The band's lawyer, Dennis Pelowski, said it considered fighting the committee after receiving the initial letter this spring but backed down when he read up on the matter.

"The law is pretty clearly written," he said.

Paul Kosmides, who owns an electric-wiring company in Plymouth, is well aware of the law. The USOC nearly took his family to court in 2002 over the name of its business, Olympic Electric Co., which was established by Kosmides' father, a native of Greece.

The name was changed to OlympiaTech.

"It was a hassle and very expensive, and it never really made any sense," said Kosmides. During a recent trip to Greece, he said he recounted the story of his legal battle. The Greeks "found it amusing that the [USOC] thinks it owns the name," he said.

The Hopefuls' attorney was more sympathetic to the Olympic committee's action.

"They've actually been pretty good to the band," Pelowski said, noting that the committee hasn't required the band to stop selling its well-received album "The Fuses Refuse to Burn," which displays the old name on the front.

The USOC even showed a bit of humor, Pelowski said. One representative reportedly pointed out that the Hopefuls' colorful stage outfits are Puma tracksuits and not Adidas, the official supplier for U.S. Olympic athletes.

"I'm sure the band will be just as good with the shorter name," said the USOC's Siebel.

But will they have to sacrifice their trademark look now that they're no longer "Olympic"? For now, the tracksuits will stay -- if only to help salvage the band's identity, said co-leader Jackson.

"We're still the same band; we just have to get the word out to the public that we're just the Hopefuls now," he said.

Look for the Hopefuls Aug. 19 at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis and Aug. 20 at the Minnesota Zoo.

Teen who threw up on teacher sentenced to clean vomit from police cars

OLATHE, Kan. -— A high school student convicted of battery for vomiting on his Spanish teacher has been ordered to spend the next four months cleaning up after people who throw up in police cars.

Johnson County Magistrate Judge Michael Farley said during the sentencing Tuesday that he considered the boy's actions "an assault upon the dignity of all teachers.''

The teen, now 17, vomited on teacher David Young as he turned in his textbook on the last day of classes at Olathe Northwest High School. His attorney, Brian Costello, said the student vomited because he was nervous about his final exams.

But two other students testified that the teen said he threw up intentionally. One girl said he told her in advance that he planned to throw up on Young on the last day of school. The girl wasn't in class when the teen threw up, but she testified that the boy later told her, "You missed it. I did it.''

Young said the student, who was failing his class, made no effort to avoid throwing up on him. "I was just sort of stunned,'' he said.

KCRW Podcasting "Morning Becomes Eclectic"

For those of you who aren't music nerds, you might want to learn a little lesson about Podcasts. I know what these things are, but I have no idea how to explain them. The Wikipedia, however, can: "Podcasting is a method of publishing files via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed to receive new files automatically. Podcasting enables independent producers to create self-published, syndicated radio shows, and gives broadcast radio programs a new distribution method."

Um...so you can download radio shows and listen to them later, without having to tune in at a particular time. Which is awesome, because really, who under the age of 30 even knows how to operate a radio knob anymore? Hell, I have a hard enough time adjusting my clock radio to the right station and have just come to grips with waking up to La Ley 107.9 every morning (which reminds me: me encanta el chokolate en la mañana!).

Well, on July 21, Los Angeles's favorite public radio station KCRW (89.9 FM) began podcasting segments of its popular music program, "Morning Becomes Eclectic", which is hosted by Nic Harcourt. The premiere podcast was a 40-minute performance/interview featuring Los Angeles' own Goldspot.

The podcasts will be available for download both at KCRW.com and from the latest version of iTunes. They'll be available for two weeks with new and past shows will be added frequently. Harcourt says, "Since we began offering our non-music programs as podcasts, we've been inundated with requests to make music programming available. While the major labels are still figuring it out, the independent artists understand the value of this type of promotion, and I'm happy we're launching 'Morning Becomes Eclectic' podcasts with an L.A. group."

Finley gives verbal commitment to UND

Joe Finley, a 6-7, 240-pound defenseman from Edina, has made a verbal commitment to play hockey for the University of North Dakota.

Finley did not play high school hockey last year -- it would have been his junior season -- opting instead to play for Sioux Falls of the USHL. He has been taking online classes this summer with the intention of graduating early.

"Most schools had me on their recruiting list for 2006," Finley said. "North Dakota didn't care. A year early or not, I was still their top defensive recruit."

Finley also strongly considered the Gophers before choosing North Dakota.

'Cooter' urges fans to skip 'Dukes' movie

ATLANTA -— If a former star of TV's "Dukes of Hazzard'' has his way, fans of the show will skip the movie version.

Ben Jones, a former Georgia congressman who played the mechanic Cooter on the series, says profanity and sexual content in the film essentially trash what was a family-friendly show. He read a script of the movie, which comes out next month, and likens it to taking "I Love Lucy'' and turning Lucy into a "crackhead.''

Jones called the film a sleazy insult in an open letter posted on his Web site. He's urged fans to "hold their noses'' and stay away unless the studio cleans up the movie before its release. A spokesman for Warner Brothers did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Abortions in state hit 30-year low

The number of abortions performed in Minnesota dropped to a 30-year low last year, to 13,788, state health officials reported Tuesday.

The annual total dropped below 14,000 for the first time since 1975, down from a high of 19,028 in 1980.

The report, from the Minnesota Department of Health, did not speculate on the reasons for the decline. But it showed that the abortion rate also dropped, to 11.6 abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age, the lowest rate since 1975, the first year the state began tracking abortions.

"We are pleased to see the number of abortions in Minnesota continue to drop," Dianne Mandernach, the state health commissioner, said in a statement released Tuesday. "We hope the numbers will continue to drop in the years to come."

The report, which is published annually, found that the majority of abortions - 58 percent - occurred among women 20-29 years old.

Only one late-term abortion, during a woman's third trimester, was reported.

I was sitting in my office today wastin' the day away when the lovely office assistant, Grace, dropped my mail on my desk. To my surprise there was a manila envelope from Fader buried in the stack. I quickly remember that I entered a contest for one of five autographed Nashville albums by the fabulous Josh Rouse himself. To my pleasant surprise I won! I do not own this LP, though I am a fan and I have purchased the pervious two. I cannot wait to spin this today, though it will have to wait since my GM put a stop to any office music between 8 and 5. Sometimes I hate how Spartan it can be here. Pot Vaporizers?

Supposedly there is another way to get the THC from marijuana that I have never tried. Manufacturers are popping up in the San Francisco area to bid on the possibility of making a medical marijuana pot vaporizer. It heats up the dope to create vapors before combustion, giving the user a much more healthy high leaving the smoke out of the equation.

Expect production of these heaters regardless of FDA approval for medical use. They'll simply show up in your local head shop and High Times magazine as 'tobacco heaters'. There will be an insurgence of pot use among teenagers giving them the 'cologne free' high. Ultimate Frisbee will become a competitive sport. Cats and Dogs will live in harmony.

Hey everyone! Just an update, Brent Jr. was born at 3:15 June 15. He weigh 7lb 10oz and was 20" long. Billie Jo is doing very well and I am shaking like a leaf on a tree. Although I haven't seen my new son yet, I was able to listen to him on the phone for about 20 minutes. Truly a life changing event. I should be getting pictures soon and will get them out when I can. Billie is in good spirits and said we actually have an adorable baby, not an ugly we are forced to lie about, which is good. He is also rather bald just like his dad. Well, I have to go, just had to tell someone. Miss you all.

Jamaican sets world record in 100-meter dash

ATHENS, Greece — Asafa Powell set a world record in the men's 100 meters Tuesday, clocking 9.77 seconds at the Tsiklitiria Super Grand Prix meeting.

The Jamaican, who finished fifth at the 2004 Athens Games, shaved one hundredth of a second off Tim Montgomery's record of 9.78 set in Paris in 2002.

Montgomery's record already was at risk because he faces doping charges. The previous record was 9.79 set by Maurice Greene in Athens in 1999.

Powell, 22, already had the world's fastest time this year, a run of 9.84 seconds at the Jamaica International Invitational on May 8. He also ran a 9.85 on June 9 in the Czech Republic.

"I'm very happy that ... I achieved this performance,'' Powell said after the race at the Olympic Stadium. "I knew I could break the world record and I am very happy I succeeded.''

(Eric Szmanda plays Greg Sanders - Jorga Fox plays Sara Sidle)

Got in Wed evening and Steve and I went to dinner and then met his roommates and Eric Szmanda and some friends at a dive bar called the Chalet. It was a great place. All the dive bars are really dark but very cool inside.

Thursday I got to spend all day with Eric, his roommate Chad and Chad's 5 month old Retriever puppy Dax while Steve and his roommates were at work. We went to lunch at this great Al fresco place called Home and then to Beverly Hills to drop Chad off for a hair cut and color. Eric and I took the long drive up to the canyon and went hiking with Dax for a while where you could see the Hollywood sign, downtown LA and the ocean all at once. Then back down to Beverly Hills to walk around Rodeo Drive till Chad was done. Then we all went to Malibu to shop for a glass dildo for a wedding gift and got to see a homeless guys bare behind too, fun stuff ;) They dropped me off and Steve and I went to dinner again then met Eric and his friends and also Jorga Fox at another dive bar to see a band, Red Car, with her friend as the singer. $2.50 PBR's baby, how can you beat it.

Friday we went to Santa Monica beach and hung out there, too chilly to lay out though. Went out to dinner at an Indian restaurant called Tantra that night and met up with Eric and friends there. Very cool place, great food too. It was a restaurant on one side and bar/lounge on the other.

Saturday Steve and I hung out, got him things he needed to spiff up his bathroom and bought a bunch of food to grill. Made dinner for everyone and then went out to Club Bang which started out as a scary car ride there, our friend who drove throwing a temper tantrum and going home which left us in Hollywood with no car and walking for about a half hour trying to find the club. But, we were in Hollywood, so how could it be that bad ;) Once we got inside it was a blast. Met up with Eric and Chad and danced a lot. There was 4 separate rooms, each with different music and the people watching was unbelievable. I should have taken pictures, it was crazy.

And Sunday I came home. Wish I was still there but I'll be back again in no time!!!
You should all come out with me sometime!!

Hey everybody, Brent here. Sorry it's been so long since I wrote last, but we have been working long days. It is not rare that I am up on my feet for 18-20 hours some days. It seems like there is always work to be done somewhere. We continue to build and improve our little home. They have started building the 3 person trailors for people to live in. They are being worked on by outside contractors who seem to take breaks more than they work, They must be union. Anyway, it looks like a long process and my company probable won't be in them by the time we leave. But like most things around here, we are doing it as much for the next unit here as we are doing it for ourselves.
If anyone has been wondering if it gets as hot here as everyone says, yes it does! Its only May and we are already at 115, and it's only getting hotter. Luckily the new humvees we have do have an a/c system, it's not great, but it helps, the same with our tents.
Billie Jo is going to be mad, because when she asked me what was new, I forgot to tell her we had some visiters this week. Dean Cane from Superman and Amanda Swisten from American Wedding came to our camp for pictures and autographs. It was pretty lame but it is the thought that counts. At least they were willing to risk comming to a combat zone to see some troops. It was at least funny to see all the senior leadership of the battalion get all jittery for the VIPs.
Well I have to get my nose back to the grindstone, hopefully I have some left when I get home.
Just know that I am well and think of you all often. Feel free to write back as it is always nice to hear from everyone back home.

Well men it's that time again. Pending the gods of
softball permit us to play dispite the rains that are
gonna come. I just think that it needs to be said
that "Yes,.. we are good" but we need to play good as
well as look good doing it. A true class d league
pennent isn't won in a single game. It's ground out
during weeks of sweat, blood, and tears. It's pulled
from us like money from our pockets to pay for beer
and food both before and after the games.(which I
think there should be better deals for ballers) We
have payed the price's, the pulled hammy's, the busted
knee caps (ha ha) the tired lungs deserved of a smoke
after the game. And god dambit we need a win!! So
everybody mentaly prepare yourselves right now, be
ready. I,.... I mean we need a win tonight,... I
wasn't going to tell anyone this until after the
season but I feel that now is the best time I just
hope it doesn't hurt the teams momentum. I have
cancer,..........it's not good I haven't much time.

The city of Minneapolis and mainly Minneapolis Police Chief William McManus are toiling with the idea of requiring our local homeless folks where a photo ID during their begging escapades. Would this actually work? Our homeless and jobless folks of America do not have the know-how and initiative to find the slightest bit of work. What will make them take the responsibility to wear a legal form of ID based on an activity based from pure laziness? Plus, most licenses our cities require cost money; it's an oxymoron if they have to beg for money to beg for money. Does Minneapolis actually think they have a begging problem? Check out L.A., they have a problem. Be proactive, not reactive.

GILBERT, Minn. -— Activities during Whorehouse Days won't be happening in any city buildings, Gilbert City Council members decided.

The council voted against renting city buildings for the festival — a celebratory look back at a time during Prohibition when the town was known for its bars, gambling and prostitutes.

Festival organizers had wanted to use the community center for a production of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Gilbert,'' a takeoff on "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.'' In a letter, organizer Bob Cap told city officials the group also wanted to use the arena for an antique fair and antique car show.

Other events include bed and bath races, a best-dressed madam contest and an attempt to build the world's longest bar.

Mayor Bob Garrity Jr. said the group's request to rent the city buildings was too vague. The city had requested that Whorehouse Days organizers attend the City Council meeting, but no one showed up.

Whorehouse Days is scheduled to take place July 8-10.

Last night Mya, Jerry, and I came out of First Ave. with the bloodiest of ears. This was well expected, the loudest of all Indie turned Major rock bands, Trail of Dead performed an energetic and destructive show. I've never seen a group of roadies kept so busy as I did last night. They were constantly reconstructing drum sets (yes, they have two drummers), picking up speakers, and fixing guitar strings. With three opening bands this made for a late night.

A promotional group was there for Dentyne who were selling an immediately recorded double disk of the night's show. I saved $5 by buying one of the promotional girls a drink whom in return hooked me up with a disk.

For all you Motorhead fans; there is a new band from the hometown of ToD called The Sword who proved to reincarnate 80's Butt Rock. If you like Motorhead, Pantera, or any of these types of bands you will like The Sword, otherwise stay away, they suck.

I have to apologize for slacking on the lack of postings as of late. It becomes a problem to find the appropriate time for writing any entry to my blog with personal substance when the only time I get in front of a computer is at work. Pathetic; I seem to be the only person on the face of this planet without a PC. Though, my lunch break can normally allocate the time for some bloggity action and any 5 minute break can lend me the time to post a comment about another posting on someone else’s site.

I try to provide my two readers with material for well rounded enjoyment. Though, I seem to continue to draw complaints. One stated that I must be working for some of these bands or websites of which I'm a fan because it can seem that my blog is purely for advertisement. Another states that I use too big of words... unfortunately, this is the way I write. I could dumb it down, but I think it is already there. Someday, you folks may be happy.

I'm hitting up a concert tonight at First Ave ...And you will know us by the Trail of Dead. Sounds dark and heavy? Because it is... this is going to be an amazing and loud show. I currently have one extra ticket for this show if anyone would like to go.

As reported this morning on the 93X Half-Assed Morning Show; the NHL will announce today concerning a comeback of the sport we all miss so much. The season will continue in one week with a 30 game playoff type season. The bad news, five franchises will be contracted. Let's see if I can remember right; Carolina, Tampa Bay (the reigning champs), Dallas, Phoenix, and ... umm... I could not find this report on any website so please believe me. There will be a lottery this weekend in which all remaining teams will get 5 lottery places and will draft the remaining 125 players left stranded from the contraction. A salary cap of 45 million was agreed to, this happens to be centralized around their grievances. So... congratulations to all the players and owners who can now hold hands and dance in a grassy field.

I just wanted to say one thing... I hate the fact that I could quite possibly live in a world where my life can be decided by another man. Of course, through hatred, war, and violence we take each others lives everyday. We continuously look to end such treacherous acts and hope for a peaceful existence for all life. Lately we have been force fed (no pun intended) by the world media of such cases in which common man has time for thought and reason to secure life. In which cases we continue to judge and determine that we human beings of this world have the right to choose to give and take another human's life. It saddens me to think of the world we will live in after generations of children are raised on the basis that they have been 'granted' life by another human. We will live in a faithless community. This will demand violence, greed, and hatred for one another.

Bob Dylan's "Minnesota Party Tape"

Before Bob Dylan headed to New York to become one of the world's most renowned folk singer songwriters, he made music as a virtual unknown in Minneapolis while attending the University of Minnesota. Now, an original recording of one of Dylan's legendary impromptu performances at an apartment in 1960 has found its way to the Minnesota Historical Society Library.

Thanks to Minneapolis resident Cleve Pettersen, the original recording of what fans and music buffs know as the "Minnesota Party Tape" is now available for the first time to the public at the library in the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

Pettersen was just a teenager in 1960 when he bought his first reel-to-reel tape recorder and spent a lot of time in coffeehouses in the Dinkytown neighborhood near the University of Minnesota. Pettersen wanted to get a local folk singer to sing songs into his new recorder and asked some local musicians who would be willing. A young Bob Dylan agreed to be recorded.

Pettersen went to an apartment on 15th Ave. S.E. in Minneapolis and hung out with Dylan, Bonnie Beecher, and "Cynthia"- another local musician and friend of Dylan's. Pettersen set up the recorder and Dylan casually sang 12 folk songs into it. Petterson has been the sole owner of the original tape ever since - until he made the decision in 2004 to donate it to the Society for all to enjoy.

"The surfacing of this original recording should correct all the rumors and speculation circulating on the Internet and within the circles of Dylan followers and music critics," said Bonnie Wilson, curator at the Society. "Citizens donating historically significant items and artifacts, such as this recording, have enabled the Society's collections to grow and make rare works accessible to all."

The play list includes: "Blues Yodel No. 8," "Come See Jerusalem," "San Francisco Bay Blues," "I'm a Gambler," "Talkin' Merchant Marine," "Talkin' Hugh Brown," "Talkin' Lobbyist," "Red Rosey Bush," "Johnny I Hardly Knew You," "Jesus Christ," "Streets of Glory" and "K.C. Moan."

The original tape is copied onto CD and cassette formats and is now available for listening at the library free of charge. Making copies of the recording will not be allowed. The library hours are: Tuesdays, noon to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed Sundays and Mondays.

This recording will become a part of the expansive collections at the Society, including more than 2,000 sound recordings, 4,000 newspaper titles, more than 350,000 photographs, and more than 36,000 cubic feet of manuscripts.

Here's a little story for you all about how obscure our law, justice, and tax systems have become.

This actually happened last night to a friend of mine that most of you readers probably also know, Teddy B. Ted is in, what I believe to be, his third year of Law School at William Mitchell in St. Paul. Yesterday he was in the school law library studying like a good school boy filling his head with all the knowledge his brain would allow. He never told me exactly why, but he wanted to find a copy of our constitution. You all know this document, The Constitution of the United States of America, the one which all law and justice is based.

He truthfully had no idea where to look and being in a law library he felt rather embarrassed to ask anyone. As far as he believed, (and I would assume the same) there would be a whole section in the library with a huge sign and arrows that read, “THE CONSTITUTION”. Unfortunately, he headed for the info desk and asked the question he dreaded to ask, "Where could I find a copy of The Constitution?"

They had no idea. They actually looked for the darn thing for three (3) whole hours. And when they finally found a copy; they found a pocket sized version. Not even the high quality pocket books like the Bibles the Guidiens handed out to us as students in grade school, but a stack of papers stapled in the middle. The good point is that they actually had a copy. Though, through all the attention the interpretation of the law receives in thousands upon millions of books that the library holds, the only respect the simplest truth of the law received is a stack of papers stapled in the middle.

I'm looking at selling my Explorer. It's a 1998 XLT V6 SOHC. Automatic everything, Leather, CD & Tape deck w/6 disc changer. Great shape except for a couple of scratches, one dent, and a chip in the windshield that I'll be getting fixed here soon. Truthfully, I believe the engine should last an eternity. I just wanted to let you all know that the Beer Bust Saturday was a success. Including the amount J.J.'s Clubhouse donated through sponsorship, we covered our entry fee for the league. Plans for another panty are in the making, but are very tentative.

Also, having hosted the event, I would like to congratulate you all for being such honorable guests. Throughout the night we completed three 16 gallon kegs, had no reported instances of vomiting, no thefts or acts of vandalism, one slipping, one wrestling match, and two spilt glasses. I'm very surprised with the great turn out and I would like to thank all who came. It was a great time with a very great crowd.

TWO WASTED NIGHTS

Monday night I decided to sit down and watch Secret Window starring Depp. I've heard a little buzz about the movie, though I did have an impression from previews that there was some cheese involved. Boy was I wrong. This movie had to have been the most jam packed cheese ball movie made in the last five years. I felt just like my driving instructor felt during drivers training... a lot of jerky stops, hard turns along with all disregard to the rules of the road. The plot had more holes in it than my last pair of drawers. How on earth did Johnny Depp agree to doing this movie? Personally, I believe the director should be barred from Hollywood.

Last night, I had been referred to watch The Last of the Dogmen. I was referred by a north woods hero who grew up on John Wayne movies. This was a movie about an exiled Cheyenne tribe whom were strangely stumbled upon by the character Lewis played by Tom Berenger. Not even five minutes in I knew I was wasting my time. The acting was terrible and if the writing was any worse you would think that I had wrote the script. The best actor in the movie was the mutt dog and at times Zipp even faltered. This has to be the worst movie made in the last 10 years. Would would have thought I would stumble across two skin crawling, irritating movies in two consectutive night?

My back is crooked because of my mouse. I can't sit straight once I leave the house. I lean to the right though I try to lean left. I complain everyday because my back is a mess. I need a new chair, I try to contest! I can't let it go, I love to play with my mouse.

A night with Interpol.

I couldn't have walked out of First Ave. Saturday night with a bigger smile on my face. Though, I was beaten by Jeremiah whom had a grin pasted from ear to ear. My senses were in overload and my knees were shaking. There was no need to get any relief from any type of cigarette throughout the rest of the night.

A pathetically overwhelming band called The Q and Not U opened Saturday. They were half an hour late from their start time and made no mistake to play their whole set list. They were a funky version of Bon Jovi and people loved them. Though, the mix of crowd that night created this spunk. Half the people were in their Thirties and I'm sure the mess of sound that The Q and Not U made brought them straight back to the Eighties.

Interpol played a strong set-list from both albums. They had a light show and the ferocity to have been playing across the street in the Target Center. I've never seen quite the light set-up in First Ave. than I did that night. This is a band ready for greater things and believe me they're ready. The sound was perfect and the songs were played flawlessly. If it wasn't for the occasional feedback I could have sworn they were performing like Ashlee Simpson on SNL.

Lastly, I have to give props to Craig’s List for help in finding tickets. I picked up two tickets three hours prior to show time and paid face value.

Hey everyone, how is it going? Sorry I haven't sent any emails sooner, but you know how things go. Everything is going well over here, not too much to complain about, but like I have said before, we still do because we can. We are performing Military Police operations here, which is a fairly vague job description, you could say we do it all. We patrol our areas, escort convoys all over, even to Baghdad, we help stranded Iraqis fix their vehicles, we give candy and toys to kids, and provide security anywhere they might need us. Luckily, our main area is pretty quiet, but there is always something to look at, guard, or secure. I'm am actually having quit a bit of fun over here, at least until the heat starts. The weather has been decently pleasant since we arrived, the only thing that sucks is that it has been raining alot, and desert mud is no joke. The only thing that I can really complain about is that I miss my family and friends.
Billie Jo is doing pretty good. She has moved back in with her parents to help ease the burden of pregnancy a little bit. We are able to stay in touch a few times a week, when my free time allows. I'm sure you all know, but the baby is due July 2, and I should be able to come home right around then for my leave.
If any one has any new CDs that they may want to copy for me and send over, that would be much appreciated, as music gets rather scarce.
Well, I 'm off to save the world, one day at a time, I wish everyone the best, and know that I will be safe and smart.

Our Savior... Joe Mauer

Truly... I want to know what you all are thinking. Is this knee injury as big of a deal as the media is making it out to be? I keep reading the stories because of the high interest to me and they have quirked my inquisitive attitude.

To all of you, non-baseball and more importantly unknowing Twins fans, Joe Mauer is considered to be the future of the Twin organization. He is an impressive hitter with even better fielding skills. In only 35 games last year he landed himself in the 3 spot of the hitting rotation. A position reserved only for the team All-Star.

A knee injury now has made for major discussion to move Mauer to DH or another infield position. This is a move the Twins are prepared to make; changing the entire line-up and infield. Is all the effort worth this young man? A young man considered to be the #1 prospect in baseball in both 2004 and 2005. I would say definitely. Though, I believe folk are over-exaggerating the situation.

Read between the lines. This newfound soreness in Mauer's knee is expected. Even through these expectations doctors have not ruled him from the Catcher position. Soreness is soreness, not pain. Just like an engine repair, the engine needs to break the repair into the mold of the rest of the engine. Mauer will be fine; he'll heal as expected and grow to exceed our expectations in Major League Baseball. All the press that he his getting now will grow and his skills will be worth writing about.
